FIJI's top 7s rugby whistleman Tevita Rokovereni along with women referee Mere Uluinaceva will officiate at the 2017 Oceania 7s which kicks off today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Rokovereni officiated in the 2016 HSBC World Sevens Series in the Wellington 7s, Sydney 7s, Hong Kong 7s and Singapore 7s.

Oceania Rugby regional training manager Talemo Waqa said Rokovereni would get more tournaments in the new series which would start at the end of the month in Dubai.

"Tevita is still refereeing the 7s series and he will also do the same in the Oceania 7s," Waqa said.

"One of the other participants from last year Mere Uluinaceva will also officiate at the tournament because we want to advocate females and gender equality. Avi'I Fa'alupega from Samoa, who officiated in the tournament last year, will also be coming back."

Fiji's 12 referees will be officiating at the Oceania 7s with Richard Kelly who has officiated on the HSBC World Sevens Series.

"The referees have been officiating locally and we want them to officiate at the international level which they will do at the Oceania 7s," he said.

"Referees from Australia, New Zealand will officiate in the series while Tevita has also been included from Fiji and he will officiate in more tournaments than last year, which is the great indication that we are going to be international."
