INSPIRED by former New Zealand playmaker Tomasi Cama, young Jone Nareki wants to book a spot in the New Zealand 7s team for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Nareki, 19, is a winger in 15s, but he has moved to the playmaker's position for All Blacks 7s duties.

The Nakoronawa Village, Nakasaleka, Kadavu lad said Fiji and Australia were the real threats for them in the tournament.

"The preparation has been really good and teams have trained well and we are getting used to the hot weather as we expected weather would be a factor in playing this weekend.

"The two training sessions we had really helped us to get to where we want to be in this weekend," he said.

"I am working hard to be part of the team for the series and playing at the playmaker's position is a key position and we have Tomasi Cama who had been giving us some tips and advice as how to play the game and it is good to have him since he was a professional 7s player and a good playmaker."

Nareki has maternal links to Naduri in Nadroga and has been playing for the Otago 15s team.

"I was born in Fiji, but I migrated to NZ in 2000 and since then I was brought up in New Zealand I wanted to play for them," he said.

"It will be a good competition and a tough tournament.

"The tournament has given me an opportunity to develop my skills and to know the game before the series comes."

New Zealand plays Nauru at 4.20pm while they will take on Cook Islands in the final group match at 7.20pm tonight at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
