LAUTOKA Golf Club has been boosted with a $3500 sponsorship by Geotech Drilling International Services Ltd for the 2017 official season opening at the golf links on Saturday.

Club official Raymond Singh thanked Gary Barnett for the unexpected generous sponsorship that will see for the first time in more than a decade professionals and women golfers invited to participate in the 18 holes individual stroke event.

Simultaneously, the sponsorship has been a very fruitful partnership with the club, especially towards its junior development program.

"The champion of the season opening will be rewarded with the main prize and an engraved trophy," he said.

Participants will compete for lucrative prizes in the Overall A, B,C, juniors, professionals and women's categories. The heavy rain in the last few days was a blessing for our very dry greens and fairways. The handicap division will see stiff competition among Bill Gardiner, Abdul Jalal, Sunia Radovu, James Leger, Wiliki Takiveikata, Arvind Pillay, Richard Eyre, Josese Wara, Senitiki Cakau, Dr. Vimal Murthi, Lawrence John, Sanjay Gopal, Shalendra Prasad, Rusiate Kauniloloma, Roneel Prakash is the outright favourite in the professional category with Shakeel Pillay, Jay Meghji, Alex Qiokata, and Steven Leger rubbing shoulders alongside senior golfers to fight for the juniors title.
