Champions retain bowling title in Suva tournament

THE Mali Pest Control-sponsored West team was crowned winners of the East Vs West men's and women's tournaments at the Suva Bowling Club greens over the weekend.

The women's team won the match four sets to three on the first day while the men's team drew, with the winner to be decided on day two.

The West team was crowned winners after a heavy downpour forced the cancellation of the event. West team member Bobby Prasad said the team had prepared well for the event unfortunately the game was cancelled by heavy rain.

He said since the side won last year's event it was decided for the West to retain the title.

"It was a tough competition as both teams wanted to win the top awards,' said Prasad.

"We played on Saturday, the men's team drew while the ladies won their game.

"On Sunday the game was washed out because of the heavy rain where West was declared the winner as they held the cup in 2016."

Prasad thanked sponsor Mali Pest Control for the commitment and support to develop bowling.

The West women's team was a mixture of experienced and upcoming players such as Doreen O'Connor, Maria, Loretta, Radhika Prasad, Saulo, Sofie Khan, Eli, Mereani, Joshphine, Asena, Helen and Anne. The men's side include David Aitecheson, Rajnesh Prasad, Kushal Pillay, Munesh Kumar, Dan Vinod, Sanjeet Sen, Shorab Khan, Babu Khan, Santokh Singh, Abdul Kalim, Zainal and Bobby Prasad.

The tournament will be held at the Nadi Sports and Social Club greens next year.
