Market capitalisation drops two weeks in a row

THE overall market capitalisation on the South Pacific Stock Exchange trading platform dropped slightly for two straight weeks in a row after it recorded a fall of 0.01 per cent or $213,162 to close at $1,711,267,572 last Friday compared with closing at $1,711,480,734 a week earlier.

The market cap also dropped by 0.23 per cent after closing at $1,715,449,199 during the week ended Friday, October 20, 2017.

This was reported by SPSE last week in its stock trading summary for the week ended November 3, 2017.

This was despite the fact that the market capitalisation movement on a 12-monthly basis, according to the September trading report, had shown that the aggregate market value grew by 32.07 per cent over the September 2016 to September 2017 period.

And the monthly trend also depicted a 2.39 per cent average growth in market value over the preceding 12-month period.

The decline in the overall market cap last week was attributed to the price loss recorded by Paradise Beverages (Fiji) Ltd shares of $0.02 or 0.16 per cent to close the week at a share price of $12.50.

And 10,282 shares were traded last week in 18 transactions earning $92,865 in consideration compared with $55,158 earned in 39 trades involving about 17,583 shares.

Meanwhile, the SPSE Total Return Index (STRI) also fell slightly by 0.01 per cent (0.50 points) to close at 4260.62 last week.
