EVEN the Melbourne Cup had its fair share of amusement outside of the race venue.

Beachcomber got this from a regular contributor yesterday.

One of our mates had never placed a bet before during the Melbourne Cup, he starts.

He said that he would try this out.

After his children knocked off, he would take them to the bet shop and place a bet.

However, he said if he did not win then it would be dhal and rice for two weeks.

I told him to place a bet on the Savusavu horse.
