Samoa beats Fiji

THE Fiji Airways Barbarians 7s side lost to Samoa 26-14 in the plate final of the 2017 Silicon Valley 7s which was held at the Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California, United States.

Samoans proved too powerful for Fiji in the clash of the Pacific Islanders. Fiji was coached by Saiasi Fuli, who is also Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber's assistant.

Fiji was down 26-0 in the second half as they recovered to score two converted tries, but it was too late to fight on.

The Jasa Veremalua captained-side bowed out of the cup competition after going down to USA 24-5 in the quarter-final match.

Fiji came back strongly to beat New Zealand 26-15 in the plate semi-final. Fuli before the tournament said their main focus was to give exposure to the new players to grow as a player and develop themselves playing at a high level competition.

"We have good players for the tournament with players such as Asesela Ratudamu who plays wing for Namosi and Fiji Finals bronze medallist Netani Vakayalia from Lelean Memorial School," Fuli said.

"The tournament would give the players an opportunity to showcase what they got."

Meanwhile, Australia defeated USA 15-12 in a tightly contested match to win the Silicon Valley 7s title.

Fiji team:
