'Like a roller-coaster'

PROVIDING the best health services for the villagers of Viani Village in Cakaudrove is what Laite Waqaniboro has been doing for the past nine years.

To be able to do that, the 44-year-old mother of four juggles her time between work and family.

She is originally from Vusaratu, Natewa in Cakaudrove and is married to Stanley Waqaniboro.

"Life is like a roller-coaster. It sometimes hits you hard on your face that you barely move, but thanks to the support of family members who made it possible for me to pick up the pieces and move forward," said Mrs Waqaniboro.

Despite being the village nurse for almost nine years, it's something she had not planned.

"This is one job that I would say came to me as a blessing because this is totally new to me," she said.

"I never dreamt and neither wanted to be the village health nurse because I have very little knowledge of medicine and what to do when someone is very sick."

Mrs Waqaniboro said despite having very little knowledge about the medical field, she had always loved to help people.

"I've always had that passion of working with the communities and helping them in every way," she said.

"My work involves a lot of environmental health work where I get to teach the villagers the proper ways to dispose rubbish."

Mrs Waqaniboro said she also worked well with youth groups.

"My work involves working with youths and trying to teach them about the importance of keeping the village surroundings clean at all times," she said.

"I really enjoy working with youths and the community because I have found out that being a health nurse in my husband's village is God's calling for me."

Mrs Waqaniboro said she had improved on her work skills over the years.

"I became even better with my work especially helping the sick and taking care of them," she said.

"This work has given me a whole different purpose of what life has to offer for me and I thank my family for their support."
