Going to get tough

VODAFONE Fiji Bati coach Mick Potter expects the game against Italy on Friday to be tougher.

Potter made the comment after Fiji thrashed Wales 72-6 on Sunday at the 1300SMILES Stadium in Townsville, Queensland.

Fiji now has two wins from two games in the Rugby League World Cup pool D competition and will advance to the quarter-finals.

Wales coach John Kear said the loss was painful and was like a kick in the "rocks".

Wales earlier lost 6-50 to Papua New Guinea.

Potter said his players were playing much better as a team as they progressed in the tournament.

"Italy will be a step up as they have got a few NRL players," Potter said.

Fiji scored 14 tries with winger Suliasi Vunivalu scoring a hat-trick.

Jarryd Hayne scored his 14th world cup try to now hold the record for most world cup tries.

Even if the Italians beat Fiji on Friday in Canberra, it won't be enough to stop Fiji from advancing to the quarter-finals because of the huge points difference.

Debutant Salesi Junior Faingaa also scored during the match and impressed Potter.

Faingaa came in as a last minute replacement for Brayden Wiliame who had an infection and was on medical instruction to rest. The Bati left Townsville yesterday for Canberra.
