Sheraton Bowling Club's Arun Kumar went down fighting to Australian Aaron Teys in the World Singles Champion of Champions eliminations at St Johns Park in New South Wales.

Kumar needed to win the match to progress to the semi-final however he lost 10-5, 7-6.

Earlier Arun recorded straight sets wins against Botswana and a tie break win against Hong Kong China.

He then faulted in his next game against Canada losing in two straight sets. This loss cost Arun the section winner's spot which would have ensured a direct semi-final placing.

Sheral Mar playing in the women's section finished off her participation in the championship with a win against Isle of Man which ensured she stayed in fifth place.

Team manager Curtis Mar said despite the very different conditions compared with Fiji, they were very pleased with how the players had adapted to the conditions playing some fantastic bowls.

"The event has also seen a lot of mixed results reflecting that the gap between the minor countries and the more experienced countries is quickly closing," Curtis said.

"Arun started the playoff very slowly going behind 6-0 before staging a comeback. Unfortunately any chance of winning the first set was shattered by excellent bowls from Arron.

"Arun started the second set well however he was not good enough to maintain the consistency like his opponent.

"He struggled a little with his weight in this match which was partially attributed to the cold weather.

"The team was extremely grateful to our sponsors Geotech Drilling and Fiji Sports Council. We would also like to acknowledge the support of former national reps Peter and Willow Fong, Maria Lum On, and La Young, not to mention Leanne Patterson and Noreen of Vatukoula Gold Mines and Yogesh Chandra from Nadi."

Kumar and Sheral will now return and prepare for the Commonwealth Games.
