Sabeto horse races crown winners

RAFTAAR and Ali Boy stamped their mark in the inaugural Sabeto races winning the 800m and 300m races respectively before the event was called off because of heavy rain.

Navosa-based Ali Boy outpaced Raftaar and Rising Star to win the Malamala Beach Club Open Sprinter 300m race.

However, Raftaar bounced back to edge Nadi's heavyweight Live Wire and Junior Striker in the 800m.

Horse owner Sarjeet Singh was on cloud nine after the win yesterday.

He said the tough competition failed to deter his champion horse from winning the race.

"I am happy with the win and I am glad that we have stamped our mark today," said Singh.

Meanwhile, Green Moon of Navosa defied all odds to win the Vodafone local horse 600m race.

Green Moon was stretched to the wire by one of Ba's champions — Tamil Tiger to win the race.

Tamil Tiger had to settle for the second spot.

In another exciting race, Vodafone of Navosa was crowned the Breeders Cup 800m champion.

Owned by Nabir Khan of Navosa, Vodafone proved too strong for other participants edging Lighting McQueen of Nadi and SODELPA of Navosa for the top award.

Result of the four races:

Race No 1: Open Race Sprinter 300m 15 Chains: Winner Ali Boy (Navosa), 2nd: Raftaar (Ba), 3rd: Rising Star (Nadi).
