The Fiji Human Resources Institute members and participants during the two-day BSP FHRI National Convention in Nadi raised $4082 which was later matched by the institute, bringing the total money raised to $8164.

Fiji Human Resources Institute treasurer Neelta Goundar said the organisation had been supporting the Fiji Cancer Society for a few years now.

"We have our national convention around October which is the month dedicated to creating awareness on breast cancer and our members give what they can during this time," Ms Goundar said.

"Our convention happened on October 27 and the 28 and over those two days we had our Pinktober campaign box running where delegates contributed as much as they could.

"We had different ways of raising funds such as Pinktober contribution box, our photo booth, ribbon sales and selling of merchandise." the convention last week.

"We are so fortunate to have charitable delegates present at the convention who pledged to this cause," she said.

"At this convention we had a strong focus on health and well being by some of our speakers.

We discussed the importance of a healthy lifestyle, healthy employees and the important role that HR has in advocating a healthy lifestyle, said Ms Goundar.

Thanking the Fiji Cancer Society for the enormous work that they are carrying out Ms Goundar also sent out a message to the public to not take chances and get screened for early detection and also to maintain a healthy lifestyle. "Our heart goes out to those who are suffering from this terrible disease and also hat off to those who have come out as strong survivors and are now sharing their stories to increase awareness," Ms Goundar said.

"We are looking forward to support more health campaigns."

The institute's executive committee members handed over their cheque to the Fiji Cancer Society on Tuesday in Suva.
