PAWAN is ready to take the Sabeto Race by storm.

The Labasa-based horse arrived in Nadi on Thursday to participate at the Inaugural Annual Sabeto Races scheduled for today.

Horse owner Jiteshwar Prasad of Dreketi says he is here not only to participate but to compete for the top award.

He said he spent more than one thousand dollars to participate at the event and was banking on his horse to produce the goods.

Prasad said his horse scooped majority of the top prizes in Labasa and was ready to challenge the best in Viti Levu.

"Horse racing is my hobby and I have been involved in the sport for many years," he said.

"I have won many races in Labasa and this time I want to stamp my mark here in Viti Levu.

"I know it will be tough but I am ready for the best.

"I spent more than one thousand dollars to come here and I will do all it takes to leave my mark here."

Pawan will compete in the mile and a quarter (2000m) which is the main race of the day.

The lone Labasa participant is expected to face tough competition against Ba's champions in Pepsi and Dina Kill.

Meanwhile, the youngest horse owner of the competition is also ready to unleash his horse in the 300m and cross country events.

Nine-year-old Savenaca Lotawa is depending on his jockey and his horse Sea Hawk to deliver the goods in their debut competition.

"This is our first competition and I am confident that my jockey will give his best for Sea Hawk to win," said Lotawa.

Race organiser Kim Beddoes said the stage was set for one of the best horse races Fiji.

She encouraged fans to come out in huge numbers and support the sport.

Gate opens at 10am.
