Shooters compete in Australia,

FOUR Fijian shooters are competing in the International Shooting Sport Federation Oceania Championship in Australia.

Fiji Shooting Association president Jitendra Mohan said the players had a training session on Monday.

The shooters are Christian Stephen, Micheal Pua, Quintyn Stephen, Glenn Kable.

"Their unofficial training took place on Monday and on Sunday. The team had their very first shoot on the newly developed range," Mohan said.

"They found adapting to the rising foreground a little more challenging than shooting on a flat foreground as the target imagery changes until it has the height to enable the background to be constant.

"However the first day was to familiarise the shooters with the new turf. Coach Tony Brogden worked with the team after the training session."

He said it was a tough competition.

"The heat and humidity is a lot more compared with shooting back home, but the boys should be able to adapt to it. On Monday Michael Pua and Quintyn Stephen practised double trap which Fiji has never competed in. This will be their first time but it is our intention to develop all disciplines of trap shooting

"This championship (Oceania ISSF) is held in conjunction with a trial event for the 2018 Commonwealth Games shooting.

"Therefore other non Oceania members shall be competing as well.

"This will lift the standards all round and competition will be stiffer. Fiji Shooting is using this as the buildup to the Commonwealth Games."
