Reduce reuse and recycle

MILIANA Radrodro specialises in jewellery and handiwork made from local and waste materials she finds such as plastics, paper and pandanus or voivoi.

Originally from Serea Village in Naitasiri, Ms Radrodro resides in Namadi Heights with her husband, her two nephews and three grandchildren.

The Naitasiri native says she believes in reduce, reuse and the recycle concept which she tries to prove in all her handicraft.

Married with a son who now resides in Australia she said she had been doing this job for the past 13 years.

The jewellery she makes are sold for $10 whereas her other handicraft products are sold for $3 each.

Ms Radrodro said the money she earned from making her handiwork products helped support her family and paid for her three grandchildren's school expenses.

Apart from jewellery and other handiworks she said she also sold mats for $200 each depending on the size and the type.

She said her husband and her two nephews usually helped her out in the making of her handiwork products.

"Usually it takes me about a month to make all the products before its ready to be sold," Ms Radrodro said.

She added that she only sells her products during a career expo or if there were orders from clients.

"Most of the time I work from home and people buy from home. I don't usually go out and look for people in fact people look for."

Over the years Mrs Radrodro had been blessed to be part of the National Women's Expo where she was able to display her personalised products.

In a day she said she could earn $300 just from selling her hand made products and her family was always satisfied with the little extra money she earned from her handicraft.

Ms Radrodro advised the public that there was no such thing as unemployment and people need to put their God given talents into good use.
