Rainibogi sets target

LEVUKA lad Taniela Rainibogi wants to win a gold medal for Fiji in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

He had been lifting some good weights and is vying for a place to compete in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu in December.

Rainibogi is from Baba, a settlement in Levuka, Ovalau.

He is an upcoming weight-lifter who has been working hard to get national selection.

"I am working hard for the Pacific Games," he said.

"I will give my best for the country and we have been going through an intense training under coach Joe Vueti. We are focused on the Pacific Mini Games.

"My goal is to win a gold medal and I joined the sport because it has been part of our settlement in Levuka. There are a lot of weight-lifters who are from our settlement. I joined the sport last year and had improved a lot," the 20-year-old said.

He competed in the International Weightlifting Federation Junior Championship in Japan earlier this year and also won a silver and a bronze medal at the 2017 Oceania Championship in Gold Coast, Australia in September.

"I have gained a lot of confidence after representing Fiji overseas," he said.

The Pacific Mini Games will be held from December 4-15.
