SEVEN weight-lifters will compete in the 2018 Commonwealth Games which will be held in Gold Coast, Australia.

The weight-lifters are Apolonia Vaivai, Eileen Cikamatana, Seruwaia Malani, Ulina Tinaiadivila Sagone, Manueli Tulo, Puamau Qaqa and Taniela Rainibogi.

Coach Joe Vueti was treating the 2017 Pacific Mini Games as a buildup towards the Commonwealth Games.

"We have got some very good weight-lifters whom I am very confident of to win gold medals for Team Fiji," he said.

"Weight-lifters Manueli Tulo, Apolonia Vaivai and Eileen Cikamatana have been doing very well and have been working hard in the training sessions to better their chances. I am sure they will win medals and deliver the goods."

Vueti said Weightlifting Fiji was eyeing nine gold medals in the Pacific Mini Games.

"Everyone is looking forward to the Commonwealth Games and even rugby 7s is looking for a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and for Fiji, Nacanieli Takayawa won a gold medal in 2002 and no one else since then," he said.

"Apolonia settled for a silver medal in the last Commonwealth Games. We are giving our best and if we can win a medal then it will be a bonus for us."
