THE Vodafone Fiji football team has been hit with another blow after New Caledonia withdrew from playing in a friendly international game.

Fiji FA earlier requested the New Caledonia side for a friendly match to prepare the Christophe Gamel-coached national team for the game against Estonia later this month.

Fiji Football Association chief executive Mohammed Yusuf said New Caledonia withdrew because of club commitments.

"We have received an email confirming their unavailability to play Fiji," he said.

"They still have three rounds of competition to play and they cannot release their national reps. We have no other options, but to respect their decision."

Yusuf said the national side would prepare for Estonia.

"We have tried our best in trying to get some Asian teams, and recently the New Caledonia side, unfortunately they also have commitments."

Meanwhile, the parent body has sent its condolences to the family of former national and Nadroga rep Mesulame Titifanua.

Yusuf said the death of the former national rep was a huge loss to Fiji Football.

"We have lost a great soccer player and it is a huge loss to Fiji football. He represented the country with honour and will be remembered as one of the best soccer players to grace our shores.

"The Fiji FA will visit the family before the funeral on Saturday," he said.
