Squash Fiji gears up for 2018 games

SQUASH Fiji is conducting trials this week at the Northern Club in Lautoka to select players for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The trials, which ends tomorrow, started on Wednesday.

Fifteen players are taking part.

The competition is being held in the men's and women's divisions from which an elite squad will be selected for final preparations to the games.

Team manager Dinesh Narayan said players who would not make the squad would continue training in their development squad in preparation for the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.

"For Suva-based players, the first day of competition will be held at the Defence Club in Suva," he said.

"The Nadi and Lautoka-based players begun their games at Lautoka's Northern Club from 6pm on Wednesday," he said.

"The games will continue at the Northern Club until Saturday.

Players taking part in the trials: Men's: Lautoka: Justin Ho, Romit Meghji, Nadi: Kurk Cheer-Simpson, Fonmanu Rigamoto, Sefeti Rigamoto,Daniel Fong, Stephen Henry, Suva: Sailesh Pala, Savusavu: Tige Young.

Women: Suva: Linda Barton, Savusavu: Makita Tusega, Nadi: Alison Yee, Ruth Pickering, Robyn Samisoni, Samantafa Samisoni.
