MERCHANT Club's Walter Robinson showed his class to win the Billiards and Snooker Association of Fiji third A Grade Rankings Championship at the South Seas Club in Lautoka on Sunday.

Robinson was on fire in the two-day tournament downing Sahil Prasad 5-1 in the final.

He took a commanding lead racing away to 4-0 before Sahil got a frame back. Robinson, a national rep, sealed the win by taking out the sixth frame.

In the semi-finals, Robinson defeated Rahil Prasad 4-3 while Sahil beat Fiji number one Jitendra Prasad 4-3.

Robinson beat Ravi Naidu 3-0 in the quarter-final.

In the other quarter-final matches, Sahil beat Viliame Umu 3-2, Rahil downed Ismail Wali 3-0 and Jitendra thrashed home town favourite Nitesh Chand 3-0.

Jitendra made the highest break of 42 points.

The championship's coordinator Simon Reddy said both the semi-finals were close.

"The semi-finals went down to the wire and Sahil and Robinson won in the last frame by slotting in the black ball," Reddy said.

"We will hold an executive meeting on Thursday to decide on the next plans. The B Grade Rankings Championship will be played at the Nausori Club next weekend.

"The final A Grade Championship will be played at the end of next month."
