A great lesson

Eloni Vunakece's Diary

FIRST pool game of the world cup done.

Everyone knows the score against a side that I thought never gave up — 58-12.

I hope they taught people a lesson in resilience. It doesn't matter who you are playing against or the score; you never give up.

I have been on the end of those sort of scorelines in the world cup and they are great lessons for life.

No matter the current situation, you just never give up because a creature of strength built through loss and failure will grow and feed itself and come to life somewhere else in life after realising you have faced adversity before and survived.

Kevin after the game, touched on how the game itself in Fiji is growing, but in America, the game is only in its infancy even more so. With half their team filled with local American players, double that if the last world cup, hopefully the next generation of rugby league players witness the great game and some of the athletes from that great country take up the game and strengthen it for them.

There is still so much work to be done. Complacency has no place here.

As a pack, we are devastated by Kane's injury. He is a huge loss for our team, but in his own words, it is an opportunity for another player to represent our great nation.

He will be back bigger and stronger than ever and quite frankly, people will have to jump out of his way because he will be on a mission.

Training resumed on Monday after a well deserved Sunday off. We are well aware of the task ahead and are preparing for war against a Welsh team looking to correct their woes from a tough loss over the weekend against our Melanesian brothers, the Kumuls.

Send us strength and energy for the week ahead!
