Veteran Ali tops Lautoka golfers

VETERAN Gaffar Ali beat all odds to beat a host of top golfers at the golf links in Lautoka last Saturday.

His sterling performance won him the the Geotech Drilling International Services-sponsored 18 hole pre-season opening stroke event after he mastered a steady 67 nett to win the A-grade title.

Ashneel Kumar, on the other hand, pipped Tevita Drauniniu for second spot on a countback with the duo posting 69.

Former Fiji Football Association referee Davendra Mudaliar scooped the B-grade title on a score of 66 followed by Richard Eyre on 67 and Abdul Jalal on third position on 69.

Arvind Pillay who recorded back to back wins at the course, convincingly won the C-grade title on 67 pointrs. Robert Joseph finished second on 71 and Asish Kumar completed the top three with a score of 72.

The nearest to pin (NTP) award went to James Krishna on the second hole, and Pritam Singh on the ninth.

Meanwhile, Josese Wara hit the longest drive on the third hole. Roneel Prakash won the professional category after he carded 70 with Steven Leger and Alen Qiokata sharing the juniors category on 70.

The club is now geared up to host the official 2017 season opening on Saturday, November 11.
