Treat everyone equally

RESPECT everyone, treat all equally, never discriminate and never compromise your integrity.

This was the message from Mark One Apparel managing director Mark Halabe an award recipient at this year's Prime Minister's International Business Awards.

In an interview with this newspaper Mr Halabe said he did not expect to win the Excellence in Business Leadership Award however he said he was honoured and felt elated because the judges felt he deserved the award from a group of individuals who would have easily qualified.

"No one walks into an award night expecting to win anything but when your name or organisation is announced you flash back in your mind that you had been chosen by judges who are national leaders themselves. That in part is the special honour," he said.

Business has its ups and downs despite the challenges he encountered Mr Halabe said he never gave up.

"There are never two days that are the same in running my business challenges are from all directions, be it climatic, industrial, legal, bureaucratic, financial, external or internal all have to manage effectively.

"The thought of failure or giving up have never been considered. Having a well-structured company that is capitalised adequately and dedicated staff that share the vision, mission and goals is something to wake to every morning."

He said having the support of your immediate family was critical because managing a business came with a huge responsibility and could also be rewarding. The company employs 400 staff members and manufactures sports clothing.

"Currently our customers include 11 national rugby league clubs, five Australian Football League clubs, five Super League in the United Kingdom (UK) and many other smaller clubs in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and we recently became the supplier to the Fiji Rugby Union," Mr Halabe said.
