FIJI'S leading beverages company Paradise Beverages was awarded the 2017 Emerging Exporter of the Year Award at the Prime Minister's International Business Awards, held on Saturday October 21 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

The general manager Mike Spencer said this was their first time to enter the PM's International Business Awards.

He said the company had proudly been in business in Fiji for 60 years, brewing and distilling some of the most well-known brands in Fiji, but it has only been the past few years where they had developed their export strategy.

"Over the past four years, we have invested $50m to improve our capability to enable us to compete in the international market," Mr Spencer said.

He said their biggest win so far had been when they entered the world's largest beer market in China. "Our partnership with Fiji Links International Trading, which is led by another proud Fijian, Ms Fang Fang Jamnadas, means we now proudly sell Fiji's iconic brands Fiji Bitter, Fiji Gold, Vonu and RATU rum into this market. Through this relationship, and the support of the Fijian Government and their close ties to China, we will take and grow these brands for the long term. This can, and will, substantially grow and change our business and provide long term opportunities for further capital expansion and employment both here in Fiji and in China."
