Bhatti keeps snooker president role

BUSINESSMAN Riffat Bhatti has been re-elected as president of the Billiards and Snooker Association for another term.

Bhatti received an overwhelming support during the elections. He will serve for another three years.

Bhatti was instrumental in bringing over Oceania Billiards and Snooker Federation president Barrie Jones last week.

Jones, an Australian Billiards and Snooker Council class one referee examiner, staged referee clinics in Suva and Nadi.

Bhatti said there was full support for the executives during the annual meeting.

"We have a strategic plan in place," Bhatti said.

"Our first priority is to fix all the tables and set up an academy in the country. I have had discussions with Jones in this regard.

"We want to have the best tables in the country. Next we hope to get an overseas coach to lift the skills level of our players.

"We are working with the overseas bodies to help us grow the sport in the country."

The association will decide on the number of players to send to the 2018 Oceania Championship soon.

Bhatti said this would depend on their budget.

"The reality is that our players are still not ready to win the Oceania title," he said.

"We will send players overseas to gain exposure. The 2015 accounts have been audited and this will be presented to FASANOC.

"The 2016 accounts are being audited."

BSAF executives: Riffat Bhatti (president), Yogen Prasad (vice president), Feroz Khan (vice president), Suresh Chauhan (vice president), David Ratnam (vice president), Praneel Singh (vice president), Ravi Narayan (secretary), Simon Reddy (treasurer), Viliame Umu (committee member), Esala Talebula (committee member), William Lee (committee member), Ravinesh Maharaj (committee member).
