THE country's national airline, Fiji Airways has started its recruitment drive for potential candidates to take up positions as cabin crew.

More than 2000 applicants lined up at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva yesterday to show the recruitment team that they had the skills, knowledge and passion to become airline's ambassadors.

Fiji Airways general manager inflight service delivery Edwin Aisake said the response from the applicants had been tremendous with the number exceeding expectations.

"The response has been great. The candidates have been lining up since 7am this morning.

"We are expecting to see more than 2000 applicants today. This is our first open day recruitment drive for this year," Mr Aisake said.

"We haven't finalised the number of positions the candidates would be filling at this stage. But in due cause we will be confirming the number of positions we are seeking."

Mr Aisake revealed the purpose for the recruitment drive was to reach out to as many potential candidates wanting to join the national airline and become the next lot of Fiji Airway's ambassadors.

"This recruitment drive is for the positions of cabin crew.

"Some of the key requirements for today's recruitment was that candidates needed to bring their completed documents which includes curriculum vitaes (CVs), certificates, photos and they also have to take part in the swimming exercise," he said.

"The next stage is that we will be in contact with the successful applicants for an online exam. Following this exam, we will be calling the candidates for a face to face interview."

According to him, the successful candidates were likely to take up positions in the first quarter of next year.
