Tough battle

COMING seventh out of eight teams is not where Oceania Girls' coach Jessica Macaskill wanted her team to finish in the teams competition on Tuesday despite the team putting on some good performances.

"Ideally we would like to get a few more wins or a few more sets on the board, but it has been a tough competition here."

"We had mixed results. We had the odd win, but a lot of losses, but then again we are playing some tough players" she said.

Macaskill was optimistic about their mixed results so far.

"This event is a championship not a challenge and from our perspective it's been good to see the players interact with those from other countries."

The rest day on Thursday aided that goal with the teams heading to Uprising in Pacific Harbour together to see a traditional Fijian cultural performance. The day also involved volleyball, football and swimming at the beach which was a new experience for some of the visiting players who had never seen the ocean before.

After the trip to Uprising Beach Resort the draw for the mixed doubles competition was drawn. The mixed doubles has been a feature of the World Cadet Challenge since its inception.

"Mixed doubles will be very interesting" Macaskill said.

"It's completely random sometimes you get a really good partner, sometimes your partner might not be so strong. But it doesn't mean they are not able to win some matches."
