FIJI Airways Drua sails to the semi-final of the 2017 National Rugby Championship despite going down to Sydney Rays 36-29 in the final match of the round at the ANZ Stadium in Suva last night.

The Senirusi Seruvakula coached-side was tested by the vistors time and again in the first 35 minutes of the match with no tries being scored by both the teams.

Sydney Rays led 12-0 at half time with tries to Apolosi Latunipulu and Irae Simone in the lapse of five minutes.

Prop Damien Fitzpatrick scored twice in the second half while Simione also got is second in the 53rd minute of the match while Peni Raidre scored Fijian Drua's first try with Kini Douglas and substitute Seru Cavuilati crossing the try line twice while Nichloas Duffy extended the lead for Rays.

"It was a bad start in the first 60 minutes of the match and we got a lot of lessons from it and the last 20 minutes was exciting, but we need to step up our preparation for the next week's semi-final," Seruvakula said.
