MIRIAMA Senokonoko is on a mission to win a gold medal for Team Fiji in athletics competition at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games which will be held in Vanuatu.

Senokonoko has been ranked number one in triple jump in Fiji while she is ranked second in the Pacific Islands ranking.

The former Adi Cakobau School runner said there the competition had been tough after coming back from an injury.

"I am looking forward to the Pacific Mini Games in December as I have been training hard to improve on my timing and get a gold medal for Fiji," she said.

"It will be a tough competition.

"After a long time, I am joining the Fiji athletics team and represent Fiji. The last time when I joined the national athletics team was in 2013 after the Coca-Cola Games and then I was given a two year scholarship at the New Mexico Military Institution. I injured my left knee and had to be out for about two to three years to fully recover and come back into the competition."

Athletics Fiji chief development officer Joe Roden Jr said he had high hopes for Senokonoko who would represent Fiji in the triple jump and 400 metres where her best timing was 55.41 seconds when she ran in the Oceania Championship in Samoa.

"She is a leading national jumper and she is the top two athlete in the Pacific region after being off for sometimes," he added.

"Miriama has a record of 12.20 metres of jump and we did not have any other women athlete to have jumped over 12 metres for a long time and her performance would see us in the medal hunt in the competition.

The Pacific Mini Games will be held from December 4-15.
