Central Division chief not happy

FIJI Primary Schools Athletics Association Central Division co-ordinator Phillip Morell has shown concern on the unfair treatment for the use of the ANZ Stadium for their competition.

Morell said they had lodged a complaint with the Fiji Sports Council because of the fact that they were not allowed to use the ground for their field events.

"We paid money to use the tracks and they didn't allow us to use the ground because according to them the children will damage the field," he said.

"They have given us the tracks to run on and we need to use Buckhurst Ground for our field events.

"It is a bit unfair for the children because they have only two field events which is for shot put and cricket ball. This is the third year I am running this tournament and we've been negotiating with them to let the kids use throwing areas but the argument is still the same that the primary schools children will damage the ground which is stupid and unfair for the kids."

Morrel added with this kind of behaviour it will affect the children's performance.

He also highlighted that they are still waiting for some entries to come before the competition next month.

"The total number of districts that will take part is 11 and the district range from Wainibuka to Serua to Namosi and Naitasiri.

"All districts are having their training and preparations are underway and in a few week's time we will be ready to go.

Fiji Sports Council acting operations manager Eleina McDonald said she would have to get a feedback on the issue.

"This is the first I am hearing regarding apparent/supposed advice given to him.

"It would be premature to comment on an issue of someone's opinion if the complaint has not even been brought to my attention," McDonald said.
