NIPPY scrumhalf Nikola Matawalu is the only injury concern for the Flying Fijians team.

Matawalu who was in explosive form against Japan on Tuesday night is now being assessed by physio William Kwoong.

The Ra lad injured his ankle giving him a 50-50 chance for the match against Samoa.

Matawalu has shown determination and the heart to continue playing this Sunday, however, team manager Isei Rayawa said the physios call would determine the outcome.

It is good to see players showing the determination to play and Matawalu is just mentally positive that he will be fit for the next game.

He wants to play but we will wait for the physio to decide on that, he said.

Matawalus ability to strike anywhere in the field will be missed in the crucial encounter against Samoa if he fails to recover.

If Matawalu fails to recover, either Kelemedi Bola or Otago-based Nemia Kenatale will replace him.

He is one of the key players in the team but like what we have said earlier, we will only take players that are 100 per cent fit for the job.

We got other capable players to replace in the team. We will let him play if he is fit otherwise we will not take the risk and let him rest so he can recover.

The physio is looking after him and he is a concern to us. His welfare is our top priority at this stage taking into account his contribution to the team, Rayawa added.

Rayawa says captain Netani Talei also sustained niggling injury but should recover in time for the Samoa clash.
