Council focuses on development

THE Tailevu Provincial Council will focus on improving development and the livelihoods of people in the province.

Roko tui Tailevu Ratu Semisi Saukawa said the development of infrastructure in the province was of utmost importance to the council meeting that started yesterday.

Well be addressing issues relating to the development of the province, these issues will include education and infrastructure.

With regards to development the province is a bit behind the rest of the provinces, for myself Im from the yasayasa vaka Ra and theres quite a difference here, he said.

You can see this when you look at the village of Namara, it is twenty minutes drive from Nausori tTown and yet they use a borehole to get their water instead of receiving piped water.

Ratu Semisi said besides the issues regarding infrastructure, there were other issues to be addressed in the meeting.

Since the province of Tailevu is affected by flooding we will also be looking at ways to improve our capabilities to deal with this, he said.

Ratu Semisi also said a report on all government activities in the region would be provided to the council meeting.

He said the respect for each other shown by the people of the Tailevu province was encouraging.

The Tailevu provincial council meeting will end today.
