Starstruck

SHEER determination kept the Exile Young Boys team on their feet as they took on a more experienced Marika Vunibaka-led team in yesterday's Fiji Bitter Gaunavou Sevens tournament.

The northern team made it tough for the SA Eagles in the first half.

A run from the 22 metre line by former Fiji sevens rep Vunibaka was cut short a metre from the scoreline.

Local fans cheered and supported the underdogs on a muddy rugby field of Ganilau Park.

But a minute before half time, Adriu Delai broke through the Young Boys defence and touched down SA Eagles first converted try putting them 7-0 ahead. The second half opened with Beni Masilevu's second unconverted try — three minutes into the second half.

In a space of two minutes, Delai touched down his second try which sealed the match at a 17 - 0.

Although the Exile Young Boys didn't score a try, they were still grateful that playing against a more experienced team taught them a lot of new sevens rugby skills.
