A GROUP of musicians are staging a concert tonight at Suva's Civic Auditorium from which proceeds will go towards flood relief efforts.

The concert is called Sukoon...An Enchanting Evening of Indian Music and will feature artists like Saral Dass, Navneel Prasad, Kaushal Prasad, Shalen Singh, Kriteel Kumar, Ajendra Kumar, Albert and Uprohit Prasad.

These artists belong to a group of Fijian musicians of Indian heritage who call themselves SurSaaz and whom concert co-organiser Nilesh Lal said were renowned for high quality renditions of Indian music.

He said there would also be performances from guest artists like Shammi Lochan, Vivekanand and Shraddha Dass and Sattvik Dass with the target audience being those who enjoy mainstream Indian and Bollywood music.

"The purpose is twofold, first we want to contribute to the flood relief efforts because we feel we've got a responsibility by virtue of being citizens of this country.

"Members of SurSaaz organised the show with money from their own pockets. This ensures all proceeds go towards Fiji Broadcasting Corporation's Drop a Dollar flood appeal.

"The second purpose is to showcase the finest quality of Indian music Fiji has to offer. We will be delivering a very high quality performance. We also want to showcase two of the finest artists in the country; Saral Dass and Navneel Prasad."

Indian Cultural Centre director Dr Kamal Kishore Mishra said they were happy to support the concert because it promoted local talent.

The concert begins at 7pm and $5 tickets are available at South Seas Music Company in Suva.
