THE University of Fiji's Centre for International and Regional Affairs (CIRA) program director, Professor Richard Herr (pictured), will build on its success because of its capacity to contribute to Fiji's national development aims.

CIRA was started by Ravindran Nair and Prof Herr says he's honoured to be offered the position.

"The centre will maintain its academic contribution to the university by offering its graduate certificate and graduate diploma courses in diplomacy and international affairs. This includes an important research component through the masters degree," he said.

Prof Herr taught at the University of Tasmania for 34 years and has written widely on aspects of Pacific island affairs, marine resource policy and parliamentary democracy.

He holds non-resident academic appointments in Fiji and in Norway and previously held visiting appointments in New Caledonia, New Zealand, US and the USSR.
