A WOMAN has pleaded not guilty to causing deaths of her daughters four years ago.
Ronika Devi, 27, appeared before High Court judge Justice Priyantha Fernando in Suva yesterday on two counts of murder.
Ms Devi is alleged to have drowned her 58-day old daughter and an elder daughter, Tanisha, aged one year and eight months, in January, 2008.
On January 30 this year, the Court of Appeal ordered a re-trial.
Ms Devi had been sentenced to life imprisonment on both counts and a minimum term at 20 years imprisonment for each count of murder was fixed.
Presiding judges Justice William Marshall, Justice Daniel Goundar and Justice Salesi Temo ordered that the convictions and sentences of Ms Devi on two counts of murder be quashed and the convictions and sentences by the High Court withdrawn and annulled.
