MACUATA paramount chief Ratu Aisea Katonivere yesterday called on his people to rise up and help develop the vanua of Caumatalevu.
Speaking at the Macuata Provincial Council meeting in Labasa yesterday, Ratu Aisea told other chiefs and district reps that it was time they got involved in development activities.
He said the government was fully committed to it's Look North Policy.
He pleaded with traditional leaders to become capital holders of government developments that would happen in the province.
Ratu Aisea said: "This is our best time. We have the opportunities with us to help develop our province and Fiji is looking at the north." Ratu Aisea added that the onus was on his traditional leaders to work with government and involve the people of Macuata.
He said for the sake of the Macuata's future generation, the leaders of the province needed to act today.
Ratu Aisea told the meeting that it was important for them to leave behind a legacy that would greatly benefit the future generation of Caumatalevu.
He also urged council members to move forward and work in a positive manner as such attitude would only reap good benefits.
Ratu Aisea asked council to work with the Commissioner Northern's Office and support the development plans that were put in place by government.
