FIJI Tennis Association president Naga Reddy is optimistic the West Pacific Qualifying Tennis Championship will be a success.
The tournament started yesterday at the Lautoka tennis courts.
Twenty four players from Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomons and Fiji are part of the under-12 competition to mark the start of the competition.
"We are happy with how things are going now. This is only the first day and I believe there will be more entertaining games as competition continues," Reddy said.
The winners from the WPQ will then qualify for the Pacific Oceania Junior Championships (POJC) that will be played on August 6-10 in Lautoka.
Reddy said Fiji would be hosting all the national championships.
"From here the winners will then progress to the Pacific Oceania, that will also be held in the country. This competition should set the platform for what we should expect from the Pacific Oceania."
Ruby Coffin, Damien Wu, Vienna Kumar, Ben Little John and Raneel Chand are the western-based players representing Fiji at the U12 grade while Nathan Naidu is the lone rep from Suva.
The competition continues today.
