PRIME Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will ask the Asian Development Bank for more money.

Commodore Bainimarama confirmed this in New Delhi on Sunday night prior to his departure for the ADB meeting in Manila, Phillipines.

He said the ADB had given $1 million grant to government to help fund humanitarian and relief efforts in the Western Division after the two recent floods.

"The ADB has already given us $1m, we will have to check if it will give us another $1m.

"We are going to Manila and we will ask the ADB for more money," he said.

Commodore Bainimarama will meet in Manila with the finance team including the Reserve Bank of Fiji governor Barry Whiteside, Ministry of Finance permanent secretary Filimoni Waqabaca and Ministry of Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics permanent secretary Pita Wise.

ADB earlier provided a $1m grant to the government to help fund humanitarian and relief efforts in the Western Division after the floods gravely affected the lives of people there.

It approved the grant under its Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund facility.

Fiji received an emergency loan of $17.56m in August 2009.

That loan was for rebuilding infrastructure and reviving economic activities of those badly affected by the floods of that year.
