NEW Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully will join a high-level Pacific Islands Forum visit to Fiji next week to discuss the transition from military to civilian rule.
According to a Xinhua News Agency report carried by Pacnews, Mr McCully, who is to travel to Suva on Monday as a member of the Pacific Islands Forum's Ministerial Contact Group (MCG) on Fiji, thanked the Fiji administration for its agreement to the MCG visit.
"This visit will enable the MCG to resume direct dialogue with Fiji after a significant interval," McCully said in a statement.
As the forum chair, New Zealand placed high importance on the maintenance of dialogue and engagement with Fiji, which has been subject to Pacific-wide sanctions after a military-led coup in 2006.
