Update: 1:24PM LOYOLA Nawalu was the first competitor for Saint Joseph Secondary School and she did not disappoint.
The daughter of former national sevens rep Paulo Nawalu struck gold in the senior girls long jump event of the Coca Cola Games.
School principal Sister Genevive Loo, who watched Nawalu from the ANZ corporate booth, said they were hoping for another gold from Nawalu when she takes part in the triple jump event.
Sr Loo said they were anticipating good performances from Tamara Patrick in the junior girls sprint events as well as Sisilia Seavula in the intermediate girls 100m and 200m.
For once the rain has stayed away, blessing the annual Coca Cola Games with good weather.
The cheers and the jeers, pompom girls, a sea of colours- it should be another promising athletics meet.
Stars will rise, some may fall.
