A BUA chief has argued against the idea of holding the next Bua Provincial Council meeting in Suva to coincide with the Adi Bua Festival.

Tui Vuya Ratu Amenatave Rabona said the last Adi Bua Festival held in Suva raised good money but did not achieve its purpose.

The meeting heard that funds raised from the first festival in Suva was used for other provincial expenses instead of scholarships, the initial purpose for the festival.

Ratu Amenatave said the proposed plan to have another Adi Bua was all right but to have it in Suva was questionable.

Ratu Amenatave said expenses involved in travelling to Suva for the festival would be too costly for the villagers.

He said the provincial meeting should be held in Bua.

The meeting decided that a committee be set up to look into the issue.

Council chairman Alipate Radrodro said the committee would inform the council members about their decision and the reasons why and where to stage the Adi Bua Festival.
