NAILUVA village in Ra is one of the first villages in the country to step forward and assist flood affected victims in the Western Division.

The villagers gave 30 bags of dalo, 20 bags of cassava and 10 bags of rourou (taro leaves) to the government, through the Ra Provincial administrator Sitiveni Tavaga yesterday.

Ra acting district officer Apisai Vularika said the food was handed to the office of the Commissioner Western to be distributed to flood affected residents.

He thanked the villagers for giving food items, saying it will be distributed to those affected by the floods.

"Nailuva villagers have set a good example to other villagers through their kindness.

"We never expected them to come up with this idea and we thanked them for their concern in helping the flood-affected residents.

"The food is estimated to be worth more than $2500 and definitely it will be of great assistance to the government in terms of feeding thousands of flood-affected residents each day," said Mr Vularika.
