NEW Zealand Foreign Affairs minister Murray McCully announced last Friday that New Zealand would be providing a further $1,453,250 ($NZ1million) in flood aid for Fiji.

This will bring the total amount of flood support New Zealand has provided to $3,269,375 ($NZ2.25m)

Mr McCully said there were many families in Fiji that needed to be supported so that could get back on their feet.

"The devastating floods forced the evacuation of 14,000 people and destroyed homes, businesses and crops," Mr McCully said.

"Those living in the flood-affected areas need housing, medical services and access to clean water and sanitation," he said.

"As a vital source of food and income, crops also need to be replanted," he added.

Mr McCully said that New Zealand remained ready to support its neighbours.
