NEW Zealander hotelier Jill Murphy is the new general manager for Tanoa Tusitala Hotel in Apia.

Her appointment brings to four the number of female hotel managers in Tanoa Hotel Group.

A statement from the group said Ms Murphy assumed her role from May 1 where she would be responsible for the hotel's operation and financial performance and management of local personnel development programs.

The group said it was pleased with Ms Murphy's appointment in what was otherwise a male dominated profession.

Her appointment confirmed the company's equal opportunity policy, the group said.

According to the group, Ms Murphy has experience in the corporate and conferencing spheres of business and spent most of her professional career in Wellington at some of the larger international hotels.

She previously worked as cluster general manager for three hotel operations in New Zealand after starting her career in sales and marketing, the Tanoa Hotel Group said.

Ms Murphy replaces Joffree Cataylo who was the first general manager for Tanoa Tusitala Hotel in Apia. Group chairman Y P Reddy said Mr Catalyo, who was involved in the Fiji hotel operations, returns to Canada after eight years with the group.
