MEMBERS of the Adelaide-based Fiji Charity Club have been raising funds and collecting food, cooking and clothing items for flood-affected families in Fiji.
The group, with its members who were in the media using their connections to launch an effective awareness campaign, organised a barbecue from which proceeds were sent to Fiji.
They collected food items including rice, flour and canned food, pots and pans, cooking utensils, clothing items, sleeping bags, and towels.
The items were among aid provided by shops and people in the neighbourhood of Salisbury.
A statement from the club said emphasis had been put on goods being in good condition and not being past their expiry date as well as the help of necessities.
Group members also organised the storage and shipping of the goods which they said proved to be a challenge.
They were able to gain the assistance and support of many former Fiji residents residing in Adelaide, Australia.
