THREE bowlers will be making their first international appearance for Fiji when they compete in the upcoming Six Nations Tournament in Australia next month.

Jona Koroitama and David Aitcheson have been named in the main five-member team while travelling reserve Ilisoni Vakatalai will make their international debuts.

Non-travelling reserve Jare Josaia could also make his first international appearance if the need arises for him.

The other members in the team are seasoned bowlers Semesa Naiseruvati, Samuela Tui and Arun Kumar.

Fiji Bowling Association president Parmesh Sharma said Fiji had been invited to participate in the tournament for the first time.

He said Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Malaysia are the other five countries in the tournament.

"Australia has been dominating the competition for many years but Malaysia has also development significantly and are one of the favourites," he said.

"But recently Fiji just lost to New Zealand for second spot in the Malaysia tournament and we definitely pose a threat to the other teams in the tournament."

Sharma said for the selected players the tournament was an opportunity to showcase themselves as pioneering bowlers of Fiji.

He said the seven bowlers were not the confirmed members of the national team to the World Bowls competition in November.

"They will be part of the national trials team but their performance will give the selectors a chance to gauge them."

The Six Nations Tournament will be held from May 18 to 25 in Adelaide, Australia.
