NASINU Netball officials are happy with the huge turnout of teams in the opening round of its club competition at Victoria Courts in Suva yesterday.
Six teams made their debuts while two teams returned into action after missing out last season.
Some of the new teams are Matailobau from Naitasiri, Veisari Penguins, Creed, Grass Hoppers Two, Waiqanake Two and United Stars while Classic Apparel and Navosai marked their return yesterday.
Nasinu netball association official David Whippy said they were happy to start the season on a high note.
"Despite the rain we are happy that we have managed to start round of competition. It is always important to start on a high note and we are looking forward to a wonderful outing this season," Whippy said.
"We had a couple of new teams and I believe it will certainly lift the competition to a new height," he said.
Classic Apparel lost their first match yesterday, losing 0-17 to Waiqanake One while Matailobau also started their season campaign on a losing note.
Whippy said despite the fact that new teams lost their opening games, he is optimistic they would be a force to reckon with as they progress.
"Most of the new teams lost their first games but that is not the end of the road for them. It is just the beginning and I am sure they will be out to create upsets in the future," he said.
