ONE of Fiji's largest retail chains for furniture and electrical appliances, Courts Fiji Limited, is extending its support to its hire-purchase customers who were affected by the recent flood.

Director of Credit Charles Work said they sympathised with customers and were doing all they could to help hire-purchase customers.

"This flood was more devastating than the last and we are trying to help our valuable customers.

"Our assistance covers those that chose the Credit PEARL option which included a flood cover and will enable us to fast-track the needs of the customers by repairing, replacing or servicing damaged items," he said.

On other forms of support, he said: "Teams will be visiting areas affected by the floods mainly Ba, Sigatoka and Nadi in order to find out how many hire-purchase customers have been affected and also confirming the claims that have been made."

He said those that chose other credit options would also be considered.

"Those that chose other credit options will be considered depending on the nature of their claims and fee waivers for up to three months will be given depending on the severity of the situation.

"That will provide them the extra cash that they need on more important needs such as food or repairing their home. We are trying to ease their burden a little," he said.

Mr Work said their post-flood initiative in January was not as challenging as the recent floods

"In January close to 200 people made claims and most were helped but there are over 300 applications for the recent floods and the numbers are likely to increase since this flood was more devastating."
