Hearing delayed for evaluation

THE bail hearing for a triple murder suspect has been deferred to allow for psychiatric evaluation.

Defence lawyer Tobia Ravuniwa yesterday asked the High Court in Suva that the bail hearing for his client Bimlesh Prakash Dayal be heard next week provided St Giles Hospital made the necessary examination.

Judge Justice Paul Madigan said there was a question of sanity and that Mr Dayal had attempted suicide.

He also said it was impossible to move the wheels of examination at St Giles.

Mr Dayal is alleged to have murdered his wife and two children on October 29 last year at Nanuku settlement in Vatuwaqa.

He was to have undergone psychiatric evaluation by the end of February.

Justice Madigan adjourned the case to May 2 for bail hearing and called on the State to press for the St Giles evaluation.
